Historicial Development: The Bancroft Lumber Company operated a company commissary and logging camp on a 13,800 pinery at Whitman's Bluff on the Sabine River in 1900. The camp became part of the Kirby Lumber Company when it bought out Bancroft Lumber. E. W. Bancroft worked fifty men at Whitman's for Kirby Lumber Company in 1902.
