Historicial Development: In 1956, Roy Lewis and Bruce Adams had two sawmills and a planing mill one mile west of Shepherd on the H. Dirden property, Wm Logan survey. The first mill was powered by diesel and had a carriage, an edger, a trimmer, a conveyor, a mandrel, line shafts, saws, shed and other equipment. The second mill was powered by diesel and had a carriage, an edger, a trimmer, a conveyor, shafts, mandrels, saws, shed and other equipment. The planing mill was powered by diesel and had planers, fans, blowpipes, cutoff saws, a shed, a knife grinder and other equipment. They mortgaged their mills and equipment on May 28, 1956, for $12,500 to Peoples Bank of Shepherd.
