History: | 20-mile logging road The Morse-Johnson Lumber Company had a sawmill at or near Conroe from about 1919 to no later than 1933. J. M. Morse was its president. In 1919, he bought a Danforth locomotive from the Sabine Tram Company of Beaumont for $1,500. The Southern Lumberman's Directory of American Saw Mills and Planing Mill, 5th edition, reported that “Morse-Johnston” was still operating at Conroe and milling about 40,000 feet daily. |
