The loan was recorded at the County Clerk's office at San Augustine in San Augustine County, Texas. The names of the owners were not recorded. Reed records that the railway company was incorporated with the state of Texas on July 2, 1881. Marshall was listed as the company's headquarters. Harrison County records reveal a similar deed of trust registered on December 12, 1881. Company officers included Horatio M. Twombley, President, and William B. Hotchkiss as Secretary.
