Historicial Development: The Hill Lumber Company may be an evolvement of Hill, Worley, and Cone in Cherokee County. The Southern Lumberman reported in September 1908 that Hill Lumber Company was operating the sawmill during the day at Rusk and the planing mill at night. The company mortgaged to Mrs. Sallie M. Summers in 1909 for $3,000, pledging a sawmill, a planer, twenty-eight oxen, five log wagons, one engine and one boiler, and 300,000 feet of lumber. Hill Lumber Company mortgaged to W. Connally Co. in 1911 for $142 “one 3-saw gang edger complete.”
