Historicial Development: The Powell Land & Lumber Company at Rusk on Powell Mill Road is documented in the Census of 1910. Not much is known about this time other than it was close to the E. T. Yates Lumber Company on Yates Mill Road, and that between the two lumber companies, the residential listings took six pages in the census. Quite a number must have been company tenant houses. Powell Land and Lumber Company on December 9, 1912, mortgaged to J. I. Case for $1,130 a portable steam engine and boiler. Powell Land and Lumber Company on March 15, 1913, mortgaged to Hall & Brown Machinery for $205 a Hall & Brown ripsaw and a Hall & Brown jointer.
