Historicial Development: W. E. “Charlie” Pierce Lumber Company operated a gas/diesel sawmill, planer, and retail lumberyard one mile east of Jacksonville for twenty years. It was listed in Samson's 1957 edition of the Directory of Wood-Using and Related Industries in East Texas. The Directory of Texas Manufacturers 1956-1958 reported that Riley Pierce was the manager, supervising less than twenty-workers employees.
