Historicial Development: H. C. Knowles operated a lumber facility near Avinger. In 1947, he sold his planer at Avinger to M. L. “Bud” Felker, Jr., dismantled the remaining portion of the sawmill and moved it to the Pyland community, where he added a new planing mill to his plant. The Directory of Texas Manufacturers 1956-1958 lists Homer C. Knowles as a sawmiller at Avinger. His operation, listed at Avinger, appeared in Nelson T. Samson's Directory of Wood-Using and Related Industries in East Texas in 1957. The company is not listed in the Directory of Texas Manufacturers 1960.
