Historicial Development: Howard Lumber Company appeared in the 1957 edition of Nelson T. Samson's Directory of Wood-Using and Related Industries in East Texas. According to the Directory of Texas Manufacturers 1956-1958, the company was established in 1950 by J. M. Howard. In 1969, this small sawmill was wrecked by a tornado. Milton Howard, the owner, advertised for sale a S. A. Woods 15-omcj planer machine #24 with a fan, an overhead line drive, extra side heads, and knives for $1,500. This may be the Howard Lumber Company four miles east of Conroe sold to F. L. Howard by by E. L Thomason and Mrs. J. W. Thomason, a widow, in 1945.
