Historicial Development: J. J. Bower (sometimes spelled “Bauer”) operated a small sawmill plant at Kelly's Switch on the tracks of the Santa Fe. He sold, in return for $4000 cash and six promissory notes each for $500, one complete mill, consisting of a steam engine and boiler, two saws powered at 45-horsepower and 35-horsepower, twelve yokes of oxen, six mules and two horses. Bauer may have sold to Montgomery and Co. or to Collins, Patterson, & Co., either one of which may have later sold to Lake Creek Lumber Company, which later sold to Edward Oualline.
