Historicial Development: Pegoda, Payton, Bartle, and Ayers all had extensive sawmilling experience (see various entries.). Pegoda & Company had secured a planer for Ayres and Otis Bartle sometime around the year 1910. Ayres and Bartle were operating as the Grand Lake Mills Company sawmill at Grand Lake, in Montgomery County. When Grand Lake Mills Company defaulted on its notes to H. Pegoda & Company, the latter had the planer sold at public auction to H. Pegoda.
