Historicial Development: The Gulf Coast Lumberman reported in October 1953 that the Caney Creek Lumber Company at Caney Creek suffered a fire that destroyed the planing mill and one hundred thousand feet of lumber. Estimated losses were about $30,000 to $40,000. The fire did not reach the sawmill.
