Historicial Development: A. E. Bates bought, in 1948, on the former site of the Harvey Creek Lumber Company, a planer mill and house, various sawmill equipment, trucks, eighty-five thousand feet of rough lumber, an edger, fifteen thousand feet of pine logs, a 1936 Ford Truck, a 1941 Ford Log Truck, a 1945 Ford Lumber Truck, a trailer, a log loader, a shed, and ten tenant houses. This is probably the company that M. Cooper remembered as the Broaddus Lumber Company at Broaddus during the 1940s. The company had a commissary and a few tenant houses.
