Historicial Development: The sawmill of the Beckham & Sons Lumber Company was located at the family home in Joaquin. Built in 1947, the sawmill plant produced pine and hardwood ties and lumber. The mill could cut 7,000 to 10,000 feet daily or 400 ties daily. The Jacksonville Courier reported in 1947 that the output was 150 ties weekly at that time. Operations were run by the family, consisting of the father, H. V. Beckham; his five sons-Howard, Lenoal, Levon, James and Warren; and a son-in-law. G. C. Garrett of Haslam Lumber Company marketed the Beckham mill cut.
