Historicial Development: This mill was built before 1889, and it is believed it was possibly built earlier than 1882, before the construction of the Trinity & Sabine Railroad. The mill was sold to the Josserand Brothers about 1890. It would have been dismantled when the main Josserand mill at Josserand, about a mile away, closed in 1909, if not earlier. The McDuffie mill owners, uncommon to Trinity County mills on the Trinity and Sabine Railway, allowed a saloon to be operated on their company property. The McDuffie mill was supplied with logs by a Shay locomotive. J. H. Kurth of the Angelina County Lumber Company may have had an in this mill. The March 1921 issue of the Lufkin Line referred to the mill at McDuffie Station as the “McDuffy and Kurth (mill) at McDuffy.”
