Historicial Development: S. K. Elms sold to W. C. Barnwell a sawmill plant for $5,750 on 30 August 1907. The sale included the following property: the sawmill and its machinery, a planer, a boiler, an engine, ten mules, four wagons, various buildings, sheds, and corrals. The plant was located on C. R. Davis land about one and a quarter miles from Gilmer. W. C. Barnwell sold his sawmill site to C. R. Davis at the end of 1907 for $1,600. The site was probably located about one and three-quarters mile south of Gilmer on C. R. Davis land, which had once belonged to S. K. Elms. Also leased was timber ten inches and up on land about two miles south of Gilmer. Property included the sale was the sawmill, the boiler, engine, planer, twelve mules, and four wagons (two road, two log).
